This is a shield that provides a lot of flexibility in adding Ethernet/Internet connectivity to Arduino. You can use either an XPort module or a WIZnet module as the "engine". Both modules have pros and cons, so you can decide which is better for you.   One option is you can go with a XPort, XPort direct, or XPort Direct+. There is a lot of example code for the XPort, and one of the benefits is that it has a preassigned MAC address & has built-in DHCP. That means its easy to plug in your project into a new network without having to reconfigure it or mess with a router. The XPorts use serial protocols to communicate, and are best for straight-up Internet host or client setup. However you can only have one connection at a time.   Another option is the newer WIZnet 811MJ module, based on the W5100 chip. The WIZnet module is compatible with the official Arduino Ethernet library, which is easy to use and very powerful. However it does not have DHCP built-in.

Audio files are read from a commonly-available SD/MMC card. Volume can be controlled with the onboard thumbwheel potentiometer. Audio is played asynchronously as an interrupt, so the Arduino can perform tasks while the audio is playing.   Output is mono into both left and right channels on a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, and there are connections for a directly-connected speaker which is disabled when the headphones are unplugged. A driver library and example files are available.

The pinouts from the shield to the Arduino are directly compatible with the AeroQuad quadrocopter flight control software, and can also be easily adapted to any application where absolute angle position is required.   Note: The images on the AeroQuad site have an explicit message prohibiting their re-use. For safety and proper operation, the drivers are electrically isolated from the Arduino pins by opto-couplers on each channel. The shield also includes a 5V regulator that can power the Arduino.

Use the Ethernet library to write sketches which connect to the internet using the shield. The ethernet shield connects to an Arduino board using long wire-wrap headers which extend through the shield. This keeps the pin layout intact and allows another shield to be stacked on top.

It can be used as a serial/usb replacement or you can put it into a command mode and configure it for a variety of broadcast and mesh networking options.   The shield breaks out each of the Xbee's pins to a through-hole solder pad. It also provides female pin headers for use of digital pins 2 to 7 and the analog inputs, which are covered by the shield (digital pins 8 to 13 are not obstructed by the shield, so you can use the headers on the board itself).

The shield uses four Microchip MCP23017 16-pin digital I/O expander chips.   By default, the power for all chips on the Centipede Shield is drawn from the Arduino 5V bus. This is selected by the PWR jumper, shorting the 5V position. If a large number of loads will be powered by the Centipede Shield output pins, such as a large number of LEDs, then it may be necessary to use an external power source to prevent damage to the Arduino 5V regulator or the computer's USB port.

The EZ-Expander is an Arduino shield that makes it easy and inexpensive to add digital output pins to your Arduino. This is accomplished by utilizing two 74HC595 shift registers. There are 16 new output pins on the shield (numbered 20-35), and the shield itself uses 3 existing Arduino pins to operate (pins D8, D12, and D13) so overall you get 13 additional output pins to use.   The new digital pins 20-35 can only be used for output, not input. They cannot source or sink as much current as normal Arduino pins. An Arduino pin can source/sink 40mA, but the outputs the EZ-Expander shield can only source/sink 6mA.   All other Arduino pins are brought up to the top of the shield for easy access. Since pins 8 (latch), 12 (clock), and 13 (data) are used by the shield, they are not available for use and are marked with an 'X' on the silkscreen.

It also allows two independent motors to be controlled in a uni-directional fashion by connecting one side of each motor to the battery negative and the other motor lead to one of the MegaMoto outputs.   Each half-bridge on the MegaMoto is independently controlled so stacking two or three MegaMoto units allows an Arduino to drive three-phase brushless or stepper motors as well as DC brushed motors. MP3 playback can be CBR (Constant Bit Rate), or VBR (Variable Bit Rate) up to 48 KHz at 320 Kbps. MP3 files are stored on SDHC, SD or MMC cards, in a format readable by your PC. PCM (WAV) files and IMA ADPCM files can also be played.   In addition to playing audio files, you can use the rMP3 for your data access applications as well. The rMP3 can create files and store data to SD or SDHC cards which can be removed, and read with any standard MMC/SD card reader on a PC. The rMP3 will read SD or SDHC cards in either FAT12, FAT16 or FAT32 formats in any size commercially available (8MB to 32GB).   Each module has a 1/8" stereo headphone jack for headsets (16 Ohms+) or for line-in connections. The new version of this shield allows for either 3.3 or 5v logic, a separate and more robust VIN connection, and the PWM input has moved to pin 3.   This is a motor shield for Arduino that will control two DC motors. Based on the L298 H-bridge, the Ardumoto can drive up to 2 amps per channel. The board takes its power from the same Vin line as the Arduino board, includes blue and yellow LEDs to indicate active direction, and all driver lines are diode protected from back EMF.

The EL Escudo is an Arduino shield that drives EL wire. Electroluminescent wire is a flexible cord that emits a florescent light. Some times referred to as 'cool neon' because the cord does not heat up. The problem is that EL wire runs on high voltage AC: about 125V at 425Hz. While EL wire requires very little power, you can't use normal transistors to turn on/off a string of it. The EL Escudo uses TRIACs to control up to 8 channels.

With the GPS Shield you can add GPS functionality to your Arduino. The MIDI Breakout board gives your Arduino access to the powerful MIDI communication protocol. The MIDI protocol shares many similarities with standard asynchronous serial interfaces, so you can use the UART pins of your microcontroller to send and receive MIDI event messages.   The MIDI Breakout provides both MIDI-IN and MIDI-OUT connections, as well as a MIDI-THRU port. The MIDI-IN port is opto-isolated to prevent ground loops. The MIDI Breakout board can be mounted directly on top of an Arduino as a shield, connecting the MIDI-IN/THRU to the Arduino's hardware RX pin and the MIDI-OUT to TX. All of the Arduino's digital and analog pins, as well as power and ground busses, are broken out as well. The RUN/PGM switch allows you to program the Arduino over serial without having to remove the shield.
