It has the effect of creating an image in the reader's mind
metaphor
Aims to create imagery so that we may visualize the connection between two objects or things when they are not. Metaphors are just the use of direct comparison.
personification
The best way to turn someone's attention to a topic is to make it more appealing. Personification helps us do that. We can turn a lifeless object into one with spirit, soul and thought through personification. This makes the object more interesting to the reader.
onomatopoeia
Has the effect of emphasis, and enhancing the reader or listener's imagination.
alliteration
Emphasise meanings, emotions, descriptions etc. creates a melodic effect
