Doing Business in the Chinese Business Culture

Doing business in China is on many levels similar to conducting business in many western countries. However, the importance of understanding the local business culture and practices are imperative to ensure success, for your business there. The following points deserve special attention:

This is the only way, because doing business in China as a foreign entity, this organization will be the minority partner (Darin, 2010). Due to the constant change, business industries and parts of the country are going through fundamental transformations in short periods of time(especially with regards to infrastructure that will/is supporting the current rate of explosive expansion in particular road conditions which effect logistical operations). The pace at which the Chinese market is changing, demonstrates the importance of having a local presence in China. By having an expatriate in China, it would allow he/she to observe up-close, the constant fluctuation of the business market and ensure that the corporate culture is kept as similar as possible to the parent company. Moreover, which in-turn would create the most accurate data that would be used to drive profitability within the business. (An effective and thorough environmental scan, which examines age, gender, geographic shifts, ethnicity, unskilled labor, and non-traditional labor force (Darin, 2010). The environmental scan will enable the organization decide which global approach is appropriate for the Chinese market..(e.g., Ethnocentric, Poly-centric, Region-centric or Geocentric). The Environmental Scan needs to be performed as part of the strategic planning process. Trying to understand China from the United States perspective is impossible; because of the complexity and sheer size of the country. However, as previous companies have moved more of their operations into China, especially around major cities like Shanghai and Beijing
