The world we live in is a broken and sinful place where death and destruction seem still to reign and yet our faith teaches that in Christ has defeated death through his work on the cross and in resurrection declaring that not even death can separate us from the love of God. Paul teaches in Romans 6:4 “Therefore we have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.” In baptism we die to our old self and are resurrected with Christ and born anew meaning that who were is passed away, all our sins are cleansed, and we become a new creation in Christ walking in the assurance salvation and eternal life.
But what is eternal life? John 17:3 “and this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” Eternal life is some much more than what begins at salvation and continues on into eternity as that would be limiting it my personal experience and only about me. Instead it is life everlasting lived together with the community of faith in the fullness of God’s mercy and love, with kingdom hearts focused on living into the kingdom of God in the here and now until that time when Kingdom of God does truly come.
To be noted as we live into our enteral, resurrection is not one and done any more than the process of sanctification because we are continually being called to repentance and continually dying to our old self and…
