The summer of 2014, Apple announced a completely new programming language, Swift. I had been considering making a career change for some time, and when Apple made this announcement, I saw an opportunity to catch the wave. For years, I 've taught myself many skills by diving in headfirst but had always stumbled whenever I looked at actually learning to code. So I decided it was time to go back to school. I spent the summer, on sites about learning to code and reviewing math I had long forgotten from high school. I enrolled at CNM for the fall of 2014 with the goal of getting a computer science degree. However, I soon found myself getting restless at how long it would take me to get to classes involving programming, especially mobile programming. So, last spring, I enrolled in an immersive style online "boot camp" to learn how to code for mobile devices. In case you are unfamiliar with coding boot camps, they have popped up all over the country to fill the immediate need for more programmers in the world. These boot camps are typically 8-12 weeks, and 60+ hours a week. The general approach is to immerse the student entirely in the language for that time. One might say the immersion is similar to going to a foreign country to learn the language and spending all day speaking to native language speakers.
